MHCA's Gingerbread Church Project

Nothing gets you in the Christmas spirit more than listening to holiday music, sipping on hot chocolate and crafting something beautiful ... like a gingerbread house! Gingerbread house making, a holiday past time, doesn't need to be limited to craft kits sold in grocery stores.

This year our culinary students at MHCA are creating an intricate gingerbread church. Measuring 5 feet in length by 5 feet in height. This elaborate sweet confection will include beautiful stained glass windows made from melting Jolly Ranchers and interior lighting.

The project started off by constructing a cardboard model ( pictured above ) and is currently being baked, assembled and soon to be displayed by our Culinary Arts students in the school cafeteria for everyone to enjoy.

For Christmas 2017 a much smaller gingerbread house was created and displayed at the St. Joseph Provincial Center.

We are definitely stepping up our game this year, so stay tuned for the finished product!

FUN FACT :Coming in at 35.8 million calories and covering an area of 2520 square feet, or nearly the size of a tennis court, the 21-foot high gingerbread house in Bryan, Texas, 90 miles northwest of Houston, has been declared the biggest ever by Guinness World Records. ( Dec 6, 2013 )

... there is always next year ;-)
